The BBC has released the official synopsis for Episode 5 of Doctor Who Series 10, the enigmatically-titled Oxygen.
It’s fair to say that Jamie Mathieson was one of the best things to come out of Series 8, delivering two fantastic scripts in Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline. He followed these up with The Girl Who Died in 2015, which was a fun little affair with an ending that plagued the Doctor throughout the rest of the series.
So what can we expect from his latest effort?
The Doctor, Bill and Nardole answer a distress call in deep space, and find themselves trapped on board space station Chasm Forge. All but four of the crew have been murdered – and the dead are still walking!
In a future where oxygen is sold by the breath, and space suits are valued more highly than their occupants, the TARDIS crew battle for survival against the darkest evil of all…
Certainly sounds intriguing!
This will sadly be Mathieson’s last story for Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor, and his first to star Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas).
Oxygen also sees the welcome return of director, Charles Palmer, whose last serial for the show was some 10 years ago! That was the brilliant Human Nature/ The Family of Blood (2007). He’s since worked on shows like Doc Martin, Poldark, and Death in Paradise.
Oxygen airs on BBC One on Saturday 13th May 2017, likely around 7:10pm- 7:15pm, before the Eurovision Song Contest begins.
