The New K9 Design Revealed

I reported some time ago and for some other news site that we had a brand new K9 feature film to look forward to! Yes, that’s right. A full-on moving picture spectacle with our favourite tin dog! The film will be called K9 – TimeQuake and will feature Omega as the big bad. Sounds exciting, yes? It will also feature dashing heroes and heroines, androids, and monstrous aliens. Lovely!
A new look high tech K9 for today’s cinema was revealed at the Doctor Who Appreciation Society convention held this past weekend in Sussex by Bob Baker (K9’s creator) and Paul Tams (the movie’s producer) who brought with them a glorious non-virtual reality model in the real life plastic flesh! You can read more about the revelation here, but in brief, this was a 3D printed model from the CGI design to be used in the movie.

Having made his TV debut forty years ago in the 1977  serial The Invisible Enemy K9 went on to become one of the most iconic characters from the BBC series, who went on to appear in books, audio adventures and several spin-offs. You can read about all of that in an article I wrote in January of this very year.
The film, slated for release in 2018, has been written by Bob Baker, a renowned writer of classic Doctor Who serials. Bob went on to co-write with Nick Park the Oscar and Bafta winning Wallace & Gromit series of film shorts as well as the feature film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The producer, Paul Tams, also created the Australian TV show based on a version of K9 who had lost his memories of his time with the Doctor.
