Synopses for Doctor Who Series 10 Finale Tease Major Death

Can you believe it? We’ve only got two episode of Series 10 left (and three of Peter Capaldi’s era as the Twelfth Doctor)! Oh, but World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls promises plenty to be excited about. After that Next Time trailer from The Eaters of Light, the most obvious things are the return of the Mondasian Cybermen, and of course John Simm as the Master!

The BBC has released the two synopses for the following episodes, to whet your 30appetites:

World Enough and Time

Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy…

The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas. Michelle Gomez guest stars as Missy.

The Doctor Falls

The Mondasian Cybermen are on the rise. It’s time for the Doctor’s final battle…

The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas. Michelle Gomez guest stars as Missy and John Simm stars as the Master.

From these brief summaries, am I the only one getting the impression that World Enough and Time is devoted largely to Missy, while The Doctor Falls shifts focus to the Master? I might be wrong, but it’s an interesting notion.

You will have noted the death of someone the Doctor cares about dies. Could this be Bill? That’s what most people think.

But what if it’s actually Missy…?

The serial is written by showrunner, Steven Moffat, and directed by Rachel Talalay, who has a history of working on series finales, having helmed both Dark Water/ Death in Heaven and Heaven Sent/ Hell Bent. She’ll also be back for Christmas – visitors to the Doctor Who Experience‘s TARDIS Tours will have spotted her directing chair outside the Time-Space Ship, so might’ve guessed she’d be back for Capaldi’s last outing as the Time Lord.

Whatever happens, we can’t wait to see how this plays out…

How are you managing your excitement? What’re you most looking forward to? And around whose door is Death lurking?

More false jeopardy, then – see Douglas Adams quite about science fiction and the ‘problem’ of the Earth blowing up in the opening scenes of HHGTG. We can only hope Bill is threatened, saved and then, Nardole dies randomly to make amends, dramatically. Either way, I’d care about as much as Adric demise. Now, if the Doctor were to really die, and Missy sets about to honour his memory by taking on the mantle of ‘savior of the universe’, in that kind of superhero way, I wouldn’t exactly *like it*, but I’d admire the audacity of the showrunners’ collectively sticking two fingers up to established fan lore.:D Of course, anything can be retconned away eventually, see DNA quote.

Unfortunately, my repeat-sense is tingling here…..I do love the Moff but he does tend to repeat things here and there and here. series 8 ended with Danny dying and then being brought back to life–such as it was. Series 9 ended with Clara dying and being brought back to life—such as it was. This time, whoever dies? Let them die, just so we don’t run further into the area of everyone who dies comes back like your standard comic book these days.

ok, just watched the trailer—first trailer I’ve watched this year. Do they blow all the good stuff in these each week?

Have we actually seen anything that implies that Missy and the Master appear together? I can’t remember anything which could mean that Missy dies and the Doctor at the end of World Enough and Time does something to return her to life at a previous regeneration – ie Simm. Although I also can’t remember if there has been anything that directly states that the Simm incarnation predates Missy, so in fact Missy does “die” and regenerates into Simm, who in true Timey-Wimey fashion has the majority of his interactions with the 10th Doctor. My brain hurts.

I think Mr Moff said in an interview that Missy and the Master face off against one another. And we all know how closely wedded to the truth Mr Moff is. As for Missy regenerating into Simm, they would have to explain away Jacobi and all that Professor Yaffle stuff from Utopia.

D’Oh! Of course, I completely forgot Jacobi! Complete idiot over here, call myself a fan, I ought to be made to hand my 4th Doctor scarf back. Call it shock from hearing of Brian Cant’s death – my childhood is completely disintegrating, At least it led me to watch an episode of Bod on youtube, which of course has nothing to do with Brian Cant. Can I just say: how surreal is Bod?

        • Cyberwomble

You reminded me how much I loved Bod. So I searched it out and ordered it 🙂 (And Hector’s House)

There’s a BBC America trailer of the two dancing, so they are defo together for a bit. In all likelihood, the Master says “give us a kiss” to Missy. Which does not bode well.
