If there was ever a man who had an in with the Doctor Who production team, it’s former showrunner Russell T. Davies.
Passing on some news from the crew, Davies said that the new show was generating a ‘real buzz’ in Cardiff, which has been the shows home since 2005.
Speaking on The One Show on Tuesday about the hype surrounding the first series for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, he told Matt Baker and Alex Jones:
“Down in Cardiff there’s a real buzz about it. People I know working on the show keep saying, ‘It’s brilliant, it’s brilliant, it’s brilliant.’”
Sounds like it’s brilliant.
As for the casting of Whittaker, Davies, who was on the show to promote his latest series, A Very English Scandal starring Hugh Grant (who was Russell T. Davies’ first choice for the Doctor back in 2005) and Ben Whishaw, added:
“Science fiction is interested in the future. This is the future: get left behind or join in, that’s what I say.”
Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the autumn. A Very English Scandal begins Sunday 20th May at 9pm on BBC1.
