Coming Soon from Big Finish: The War Doctor Begins Volume 2 — Warbringer

Following the huge success of the first boxset of The War Doctor Begins, Big Finish has revealed details of its follow-up, Warbringer, to be released in December 2021.

The set features Jonathon Carley as the “hidden” incarnation of the Time Lord, who battled through the Time War. Warbringer tells the next chapter of the story, with the Doctor finding a new friend in street smart cyborg Case (Ajjaz Awad), and with the Daleks getting ever closer…

Warbringer includes:

  • Consequences by Timothy X Atack
  • Destroyer by Andrew Smith
  • Saviour by Jonathan Morris

Jonathon Carley said:

“Now it’s finally out there, I’ve been pretty overwhelmed by how positively Forged in Fire has been received and how enthusiastically the audience has embraced the first steps of this new journey. The bar is set pretty high, but we’ve got another incredible set of stories that build upon what we’ve established and bring something bold and new too.

“We’re embarking on an intense three-part epic in the thick of the Time War where difficult choices have to be made, which will really push the War Doctor and his allies to their limits.”

Producer David Richardson added:

“I was absolutely delighted by the amazing outpouring of love from listeners for the first War Doctor Begins. We all worked so hard on it, and Jonathon – in Louise’s wonderful guiding hands – did such a fantastic job.

“But that was just the beginning of The War Doctor Begins – next up is Warbringer, a huge three-hour story about a doomed world and its inevitable fate as a casualty of the Time War. The scripts are dark, tense and never let up. The recordings were riveting to listen to, so I can’t wait to receive the edits!”

This box set also features the return of Adèle Anderson (Fascinating Aïda, Doctor Who: Time War) as Commander Tamasan, Beth Chalmers (The Paternoster Gang, Callan) as agent Commander Veklin, Angela Bruce (Press Gang, Red Dwarf) as Andarta, War Leader of the Incipients, Stephen Frost (The Oblivion Boys, The Young Ones) as Rondig, captain of a space salvage ship, and Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Daleks.

The War Doctor Begins – Warbringer is available to pre-order at £19.99 as a collector’s edition CD box set or £16.99 as a download from the Big Finish website. Or you can save money by pre-ordering the complete series in a bundle (of all four volumes) from £76 on CD or £66 on digital download.
