Could Captain Jack be about to re-appear in Doctor Who?
John Barrowman has been in Cardiff for a book signing at Waterstones, after which he posted this video to Facebook hinting at a secretive return to Wales.
As Doctor Who is due to go before cameras this month, could the two things be related and could we be about to see Captain Jack back on board the TARDIS?
We already know that new companion Pearl Mackie, who plays Bill in the new series, will still be performing in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time at London’s Gielgud Theatre until June and Peter Capaldi’s recent comments that he doesn’t know whether Mackie will be involved in the Christmas special because ‘it’s so specific, the story we’re doing with the companion’ It looks likely that Mackie’s character Bill will not be introduced until the opening episode of Season 10 next spring – further backed up by her introduction clip, featuring Bill and the Doctor heading back to “2017”.
Moffat has previously stated that due to Jack’s significant role in the Doctor Who mythology his return would have to be ‘seismic’, could the Christmas special prove to be a big enough return for Captain Jack?
Do you want to see Captain Jack appear alongside the Twelfth Doctor? After the events of The Husbands of River Song is it too self-referential to really make much of an impact? After all, Moffat has always seemed reluctant to return to a character unless a compelling story presented itself; has one finally appeared? Or have Big Finish proved that there’s still life in Captain Jack and Torchwood?
