Big Finish Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Torchwood with Special Release

It’s been a busy few days for fans of Torchwood: John Barrowman’s dashed hopes of a return, claiming “certain egos” are stopping it coming back; Big Finish has announced a new boxsetThe Lives of Captain Jack; and the audio company has said also revealed a third series plus Tracy Ann-Oberman starring in a new set.

And now, to celebrate the show’s 10th – yes, really! – anniversary, Big Finish are releasing a very special CD, The Torchwood Archive.

Written and produced by James Goss, here’s the official synopsis for this two-disc set:

“Welcome, visitor. The Torchwood Archive provides a complete history of our Institute from its distant beginnings to the present day. When we founded our great enterprise in the year of our Lord 1879, we decreed that there should be a record of this achievement, stored at the very furthest limits of the British Empire. By visiting you are spreading that legacy, perhaps out through the skies. For now, I shall bid you a good day and welcome you to the Torchwood Archive. Do, please look around.”

The Torchwood Archive is a forgotten asteroid in the centre of a great war. Jeremiah is its first visitor in many centuries. He’s come to learn something very important. And the ghosts of Torchwood are waiting for him.

James says:

“The Torchwood Archive is a celebration of 10 years of Torchwood. It features scenes with characters from the beginning of Torchwood to what may be its very end – from Queen Victoria through to Jeremiah Bash Henderson. It’s an excuse to gather together literally everyone we could get our hands on. It’s an unusual release – part anthology, part giddy epic, and mostly just a shameless excuse to hopefully make the fans ridiculously happy.”

Indeed, it’s got an incredible cast – basically everyone from their two series of Torchwood. So that’s John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones, Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato, Indira Varma as Suzie Costello, Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, and Tom Price as Andy Davidson; they’re joined by Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman, Richie Campbell as Jeremiah Bash Henderson, Rowena Cooper as Queen Victoria, Julian Lewis Jones as Alex Hopkins, Samuel Barnett as Norton Folgate, David Warner as The Committee, Emma Reeves as Miss Trent, Krystian Godlewski as Maxim Ivanov, Guy Adams as Archie, Geoffrey Breton as Bartender, Lisa Bowerman as Miss Mitford, Laura Doddington as Delilah, Aaron Neil as Mandrake, Kerry Gooderson as Little Girl, Ryan Sampson as Ivan Putin, Damian Lynch as Kieran Frost, and Paul Clayton Mr Colchester. Phew!

Director, Scott Handcock adds:

“It’s a year since our first Torchwood release and we’ve been discussing the tenth anniversary since the very beginning! The Torchwood Archive is a celebration of all things Torchwood. We’ve spent over a year pulling it together. It’s intricate, epic, insane and tells the story of Torchwood in a way we’ve never experienced before. Fans are in for a treat!”

The Torchwood Archive comes out in October, exclusive to the Big Finish website, and is available for pre-order at £13.99 for a CD or £11.99 as a download. These prices remain the same until the CD’s general sale at the end of this year!
