The BBC have announced that Sherlock season 4 will air January 1st 2017 and, to mark the release, the Beeb have also unveiled a brand new 90 second trailer.
Sherlock will start its run with The Six Thatchers on PBS Masterpiece in the US and BBC One in the UK, which sees Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr John Watson (Martin Freeman) reunite for three new episodes which promise “laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases”.
And as the trailer broods, “Something’s coming. Maybe it’s Moriarty. Maybe it’s not. But something is coming. Whatever’s coming, whatever he’s lined up, I’ll know when it begins.”

The second episode, The Lying Detective, will introduce Toby Jones as a classic Arthur Conan Doyle villain, Culverton Smith, who we first meet gloating towards Sherlock in the brand-new trailer.

Perhaps the biggest mystery will be whether the show will return for a fifth season. Benedict Cumberbatch has already hinted that this might be ‘the end of an era’.
“It feels like the end of an era, to be honest.”
But he then added:
“I’d love to revisit it, I’d love to keep revisiting it – I stand by that. The idea of never playing him again is really galling.”
So while you’ve still got a little time to wait, it does feel good to final confirm that Sherlock will return with The Six Thatchers on January 1st 2017.
