In this month’s Doctor Who Magazine, David Bradley chats exclusively about reprising his role as the First Doctor – Bradley played both William Hartnell and the Doctor in 2013’s An Adventure in Space and Time – and his opinions of the new Doctor Jodie Whittaker and incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Bradley, who will play the First Doctor in this year’s Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time, spoke to DWM about the incoming new team – with whom he worked with on ITV’s Broadchurch, which also starred the Tenth Doctor himself, David Tennant.
On Jodie Whittaker he said:
“We worked together on Broadchurch. She’s lovely.
“Absolutely delightful. I think she’ll be fantastic. All the emotional range you could want, and she’s going to be very funny as well.
“So she’s perfect for the Doctor, really.”
Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, the man who will replace Steven Moffat, also wrote the 2012 Eleventh Doctor episode Dinosaurs On A Spaceship, which Bradley guest starred as Soloman.
Bradley said of Chibnall:
“He’s just wonderful. His scripts are so rich and fascinating. Well-drawn, forceful characters.
As an actor, working with Chris, you feel you’re in very good hands. As you do with Steven. We’re all in it together on Doctor Who, and everybody wants it to be good. I think Chris will be amazing.
Doctor Who’s future is in safe hands.”
