With less than a month to go – yes, really – the BBC has revealed the official synopsis for Twice Upon A Time, the 2017 Christmas special.
This will, of course, be the last regular episode to star Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, and he’s joined by the First Doctor, played this time by David Bradley (An Adventure in Space and Time) and, for one last time, Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie). Here’s the synopsis:
Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.
An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…
We knew most of this already, except this blurb now adds the Doctor’s enemy this time around: glass people, presumably capable of freezing time. Mark Gatiss plays the First World War War Captain, and we’ve also now heard that the Glass Woman will be voiced by Nikki Amuka-Bird (Torchwood: Sleeper; Luther).
And as you can see, we’ve a lovely new promo image of the three main cast members, presented below as a neat 3D animation.
