During the press interviews for The Crown Series 2, Matt Smith, who played the Eleventh Doctor between 2010 and 2013, revealed what advise he’s passed onto incoming Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.
And it’s the same advise he gave Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi!
“Yeah, I will tell Jodie what I told Peter – listen to no-one. Listen to no-one!”
Sounds like good advice, especially as Matt came into immediate criticism and pressure as he followed the popular Tenth Doctor, David Tennant, into the TARDIS. Jodie’s facing immense pressure too, albeit for being the first female Doctor.
It’s bee too long since Smith left the show. But when someone leaves Doctor Who, they don’t actually leave Doctor Who: they’re always a part of it, and will always get questioned about returning. True to form, Matt Smith was once more asked if he’d return as the Eleventh Doctor – and yep, he would gladly do so!
Ah, but it probably wouldn’t be for a while.
MTV further enquired about the return of the bow-tie-wearing alien, and Matt responded:
“Why not? I’d come back. Yeah, if the timing was right. I think we’ve gotta give a few years to Miss Whittaker to get the TARDIS under her belt, as it were, and then yeah… one day. Look, I’ll be back one day – when I’m old and grey. Which isn’t far off.”
One day, he shall come back – yes, one day…
That day can’t come soon enough for my liking.
Matt plays Prince Philip in The Crown, and Series 2 is available through Netflix next month!
