With slightly over a week to go until Christmas Day, bringing with it the Twelfth Doctor’s regeneration unfortunately, the BBC has released a new clip from this year’s festive special, Twice Upon A Time.
It features Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, David Bradley as the First Doctor (a part originally played by the wonderful William Hartnell, of course), Pearl Mackie returning as Bill Potts, and Mark Gatiss as an as-yet-unnamed Captain from the First World War. And someone seems to have taken a page out of UNIT’s book. Has no one told them the Doctor doesn’t like being picked up?
Over to you, Mary Berry…
(For the uninitiated, Mary Berry is a chef and former judge on the popular BBC1 – now Channel 4 – show, The Great British Bake-Off.)
The clip, as you’ll have seen, segues into the sequence with the First Doctor’s TARDIS chasing the other through a new-look Time Vortex, as previously included in the BBC Christmas trailer.
Twice Upon A Time is Capaldi’s swansong as the Time Lord, and it’s also the last to be written by outgoing showrunner, Steven Moffat, whose stories include The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances, Blink, The Eleventh Hour, A Good Man Goes to War, The Day of the Doctor, Listen, The Pilot, and World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls. The latter leads directly into Twice Upon A Time, with Bradley revealed as the first incarnation of the Doctor.
Twice Upon A Time, directed by Rachel Talalay (Heaven Sent/ Hell Bent), airs on BBC1 at 5:30pm on 25th December 2017.
