Merry Christmas 2017 from The Doctor Who Companion!

Everyone at the DWC wishes a very Merry Christmas to all our readers, old and new!

Today is a time for reflection – for sadness but also great joy too. Never is this truer than on Christmas Day 2017. The festive season is always a transitional period, but this year, it’s exemplified by Twice Upon A Time, the end of an era for Doctor Who. It’s Peter Capaldi’s swansong as the Twelfth Doctor, and Pearl Mackie as companion, Bill Potts. And of course, Steven Moffat is stepping down as showrunner, a position he’s occupied since Series 5 (2010).

In their place, we have Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor and Chris Chibnall as the new lead writer and producer.

It’s been a divisive time, more so than usual even, but at Christmas, let’s find some solidarity here: can we all agree that we all love Doctor Who? Not all the time, not every era. But in our hearts, we share this incredible thing. This unites us all. We have differing opinions (about pretty much everything), but that’s alright. That’s good, in fact. Saying “I love Doctor Who” means something different to each and every one of us. That’s special, don’t you think?

It’s like Christmas. Everyone has their own version of their perfect Christmas, but we can all enjoy it at some level. Yes, even the Scrooges who proclaim they don’t like Christmas; they likely get pleasure from letting other people know that they don’t like the festivities. Takes all sorts.

Keep your eye on the DWC over Christmas (and beyond, pretty please) because we’ll keep you abreast of all the latest news; review as much merchandise as we can; and give you in-depth features to amuse, entertain, bemuse, and anger up the blood.

And on that note, we hope you all have a wonderful day. Merry Christmas to all, and to all… enjoy Twice Upon A Time!
