Get a load of that quarry. Get in, my son. Showrunner, Chris Chibnall has been promising all sorts of exciting locales for the next season of Doctor Who, but he should’ve just admitted the next series is set entirely in a quarry. Fans love a quarry.
Yes, a new image for Doctor Who Series 11 has been revealed by the BBC, albeit via the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine. And if you’re a fan of rocks, gravel, stones, rubble, dust, pebbles, slag (don’t), boulders, and brick, then you’re in luck, you oddball.
Clearly, the new series will take us back to Uxarieus, the barren setting for Colony in Space. Remember: if you see that as a heading in The Mirror, you heard it here first.
Seriously though, the latest official image isn’t massively exciting, but does give us another look at new companions, Yasmin Khan and Ryan Sinclair, played by Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole respectively. This is their first series of the show, joining Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor and Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien. Here’s another look at that image, in case the one at the top just isn’t small enough for your tastes.
We’ve glimpsed this quarry before in the Series 11 teaser trailer. Unless there are two quarries. Oh, be still, my quivering heart!
It’s quite nice to see the show return to quarries, of course:
infamous examples of the past include Death to the Daleks, Time and the Rani, Terror of the Autons, The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Impossible Planet/ The Satan Pit, The Hand of Fear, and Frontier in Space.
Join us next time in Classic Quarry Watch where we’ll be rating The Deadly Assassin for sheer rock-based sexiness. Now delete your internet history.
