A number of Doctor Who stars will be on tonight’s edition of Pointless Celebrities – including Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, and Third Doctor companion, Katy Manning!
The brand-new episode is a science fiction special, so while Davison and Manning (the latter of whom played Jo Grant with Jon Pertwee’s incarnation of the Time Lord) primarily represent Doctor Who, a few of their fellow contestants have also appeared in Who; notably, Paul Darrow (Doctor Who and the Silurians); Michael Keating (The Sun Makers); Kiran Shah (Smile); and Jimmy Vee (The End of the World).
The 50-minute quiz show is hosted by Alexander Armstrong (The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe) and Richard Osman, and has proven a massive success since it switched from BBC2 to BBC1 in 2011. In case you’ve lived under a rock for a few years, the format is essentially a reverse Family Fortunes. Tonight’s edition is part of the 11th season of its celebrity spin-off.
That’s not all: Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton will dance to the Doctor Who theme tune on Strictly Come Dancing. The pair will perform a Tango with something of a role reversal; whereas the man traditionally leads in ballroom routines, this time, Dooley – as Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor – will take charge. Meanwhile, Kevin is set to appear as a Cyberman. Or the dancing equivalent, which will involve a sparkly suit and maybe a spray tan.
Mandip Gill (Yaz Khan) also appeared on the Strictly tie-in show, It Takes Two yesterday as part of its Friday Panel.
Then of course, Arachnids in the UK airs tomorrow on BBC1!
Pointless Celebrities begins at 6pm today, followed by Strictly Come Dancing at 6:50pm. Both shows will be available on BBC iPlayer if you miss them.
