Karen Gillan to Star in Kill Bill-Like Movie, Gunpowder Milkshake

Karen Gillan has lined up her next film project for 2019. After completing work on Jumanji 2, she’ll star in Gunpowder Milkshake from directing team, Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, who did brisk business with their award-winning 2013 black comedy, Big Bad Wolves.

The film is promised to be a smart and stylishly violent assassin yarn with an all-female cast. Keschales and Papushado, who co-wrote their script with Ehud Lavski, are said to have been inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill (2003) and last year’s Edgar Wright hit, Baby Driver.

The Picture Company will produce the film for StudioCanal, which bought the rights in an auction last April. Little is known about Gunpowder Milkshake, other than that its story will span several generations.

It’s been a busy few years for Karen (31) since leaving Doctor Who in 2012. She starred as Nebula in the 2014 Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy, and its follow-up, Vol. 2, in 2017, before reprising the role in the Marvel juggernaut, Avengers: Infinity War a year later. In between, Karen’s also impressed in smaller scale films such as the supernatural horror, Oculus and – with John Travolta – the western, In the Valley of Violence, in 2014. In 2017, she found time to write, direct, and star in her dark comedy-drama, The Party’s Just Beginning (released in late 2018).

Filming on Jumanji 2 is scheduled to begin next month, with Karen starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black. Gunpowder Milkshake will then fill a few quiet weeks for her before the summer when she returns as Nebula in Avengers: End Game.
