Is David Tennant Returning for the Final Season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones?

David Tennant’s popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) villain, Kilgrave might return for the final season of Jessica Jones.

The Tenth Doctor actor played the Purple Man primarily in Series 1, though his mesmeric influence stretched into Series 2. The third – and sadly final (at least on Netflix) – season could see the character back again; and we’re not complaining because Kilgrave quickly became one of the scariest and best enemies in the MCU.

When a Jessica Jones fan big a fond farewell to Kilgrave on Twitter, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said:

“Not quite yet!”

We’ve not seen Tennant on set, but filming has been pretty low-key this time around, so we’re certainly not ruling it out.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Kilgrave can make you do whatever he wants you to do; his influence on Krysten Ritter’s titular sometimes-hero was massive, but she managed to break away from him. Nonetheless, he’s there to cause havoc wherever she goes, despite (spoiler alert) being dead…

Marvel fans will be aghast to hear that Jessica Jones has been cancelled by Netflix, alongside fellow comic properties, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. On Instagram, Eka Darville (who plays Malcolm in the series) wrote:

” The last five years of my life have been lived through a purple lens. I’m so grateful to all the amazing and wildly talented cast and crew that helped create such a rich and amazing story.”

Marvel’s Jeph Loeb has since hinted that this isn’t the end for Netflix’s Marvel programmes, albeit on another service:

“As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up.’ To be continued…!”

Indeed, there’s talk that Hulu (which Disney has a majority stake in) might pick up the tales, at a later date. Fingers crossed!

Jessica Jones Series 3 will stream on Netflix this year.
