Doctor Who has gained a new Production Designer after the departure of Arwel Wyn Jones – and while his name may not be immediately familiar, Dafydd Shurmer has worked on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
We speculated that Edward Thomas would take over; but according to an online CV, Shurmer has been promoted to Production Designer, having previously occupied the post of Supervising Art Director throughout Series 11 episodes, as well as some Twelfth Doctor stories like The Girl Who Died, Sleep No More, and The Doctor Falls.
He’s also held the role for episodes of Sherlock, 2016’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (adapted by Russell T. Davies), and Wizards Vs. Aliens.
Shurmer worked as a Stand-By Art Director on Blink, The Beast Below, Victory of the Daleks, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, and worked with Chris Chibnall, Doctor Who‘s latest showrunner, on Torchwood.
However, he’s not the only Production Designer working on Series 11: it looks like Darryl Hammer (Our Girl; The Young Pope) took this job during filming in South Africa.
Doctor Who Series 12 will air in early 2020.
