Could There Be A Doctor Who 2019 Christmas Special After All…?

Rumour has it that Doctor Who could be back on TV screens a bit sooner than predicted, with the BBC apparently planning a festive special to screen on or around Christmas Day 2019.

The last Christmas special we enjoyed was Twice Upon A Time in 2017, in which the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) wandered No Man’s Land before regenerating into the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. But it seemed that we lost the Christmas Day episode last year with aDoctor Who-shaped hole in the schedules.

Instead, we got Resolution, on 1st January 2019, reportedly the only episode of the show this year.

The report is from a tabloid newspaper and is slowly doing the rounds, so take this with a pinch of salt; nonetheless, we wouldn’t put it past the BBC to push for an earlier-than-expected return for the TARDIS. Similarly, if Series 12 begins in early January 2020, as rumoured, perhaps even starting on New Year’s Day, this would technically still be classed as the festive season.

If it’s to be a particularly Christmassy special, all eyes will be on Chris Chibnall to deliver a script sharpish, seeing as Series 12 is being filmed right now.

Does Doctor Who deserve a place in the Christmas schedules? Or would you prefer to crack on with Series 12?
