John Barrowman has mooted the possibility of a Doctor Who or Torchwood movie with Captain Jack Harkness with the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) – and he’s not the only one!
In fact, Barrowman talked about it with former showrunner (and Torchwood creator), Russell T. Davies!
“I can’t remember what ceremony it was, but I was speaking to [Davies] – he’d picked up an award for A Very English Scandal – and we said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do a Torchwood or Doctor Who movie with [Captain] Jack, David [Tennant] and Billie [Piper]?”
“If I can boast, the three of us, we all call each other ‘The Golden Age’ [laughs]… The three of us made such an impact that people still talk about us to this day, which is great!”
This actually isn’t the first time such an idea has been bandied around – it’s existed purely as a rumour for a few years now – but it’s the first time (that we know of) that one of the main players has raised the topic to the press.
It’d certainly be interesting, and there are lots of possibilities there, especially depending on which era a potential movie is set during: what about on Pete’s World, with Tennant as the Metacrisis Doctor? How would Captain Jack fit into that? Is there a parallel version of him? Or could the story take place during a previous era? We should note that Tennant, Piper, and Barrowman only appeared together in The Stolen Earth/ Journey’s End (2008), as Captain Jack’s previous adventures on the TARDIS were with the Ninth Doctor and with Martha Jones…
What do you think, DWC readers? Would you like to see such a story? Or would it work best for Big Finish…?
