There's A Petition to Get BBC Studios to Re-Release Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12

Doctor Who fan, Luke Setterfield has begun a petition to encourage the BBC to re-release the Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12 Blu-ray.

This package was initially released in July 2018 as the first instalment of Doctor Who: The Collection. These are enhanced, upscaled Blu-ray releases of the classic series, featuring all the material found on the DVD releases plus brand new features, including interviews and replacement visual effects. As well as (sort of) HD versions of Robot, The Ark in Space, The Sontaran Experiment, Genesis of the Daleks, and Revenge of the Cybermen, this box set also boasts The Tom Baker Years (which was previously only available on VHS and is worth the initial asking price alone) and an hour-long 2018 interview with Tom Baker and Matthew Sweet. Since then, the BBC has also released Seasons 10, 18, and 19 with the same glossy productions.

The problem with Season 12 is that it soon sold out at its original price of £39.99. Nor were matters helped by authoring faults on some of the original discs, meaning the BBC had to issue replacements. The set is now seemingly impossible to acquire unless one is willing to pay £300-500 to ravening eBay horseleeches; an absurd reckoning for material that is mostly now over 40 years old. Hence, Luke’s petition is welcome and it is to be hoped the BBC will listen. As Luke says,

…we the fans deserve a re-release. [L]et’s make it happen.
