Bedford Who Charity Con 7 is coming up on Saturday 9th April, and we’d like to offer DWC readers 10% off their tickets.
Details of how to take advantage of the offer are below. Hope you can come!
I suppose it’s reasonable to ask, “Is it going to be any good?” To try and answer that one, here’s some feedback we received:
“I loved it… The costumes, the beaming crowd and the warm energy in the place in combination with the event itself were just fantastic… The genuine compassion for those in desperate need came through and it is so important at this time. The gathering of the likeminded souls today was so varied in content and so interesting and funny. However, it was also incredibly inclusive, calm and most respectful of everyone who shares a love of Doctor Who… Bedford stands out by virtue of a genuine intimacy between audience and guests… A really brilliant day.”
So, here are a few more details:
Who? Doctor Who hahahaha.
Ahem.
The guests are: Colin Baker (you’ve heard of him), Sophie Aldred, Terry Molloy, Miranda Raison (Tallulah in Daleks in Manhattan/ Evolution of the Daleks and Constance Clarke for Big Finish), Brian Croucher (Borg in The Robots of Death and Travis in Blake’s 7), David Banks (Cyber Leader), Roger Murray-Leach (designer of some of the best Tom Baker stories), and Peter Roy (supporting artist from William Hartnell to Peter Davison).
What? Bedford Who Charity Con 7. A traditional style, non-commercial convention with the usual interviews, signing sessions, dealers, Daleks, and performances (including sketches!) by the actors. As it’s deliberately on a small scale, there’s a genuine intimacy between the guests and the audience.
Why? To give you a friendly, relaxed and fun day – and to raise a shed-load of money for charity.
The charity in question is Bedford Foodbank. They provide emergency food to some 1400 local people in crisis every month and a third of their clients are children. They also help with things like nappies, toiletries, women’s sanitary products and so on. They’re open all week and on their busiest day (every Friday, in other words), they feed over 200 people and give out two tonnes of food. And demand continues to increase: they’re getting busier and busier.
Last year, Bedford Who Charity Con raised £6643 for them: a testimony to the huge generosity of Doctor Who fans.
Where? The King’s House, Ampthill Road, Bedford MK42 9AZ. Bedford’s about 50 miles north of London; fast trains from St Pancras take 35 minutes. It’s easily accessible from the A1 and the M1. Our website gives details of bus and train links.
When? Saturday 9th April. We kick off at 10am; the event closes at 5.30pm.
