Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies, will appear in a special panel later this week alongside Star Trek‘s head honcho, Alex Kurtzman — sparking rumours of a crossover between the franchises.
We should note that such a crossover is unlikely, given that Doctor Who is a joint venture between the BBC, Bad Wolf, and Disney, while Star Trek streams on rival service, Paramount+. Nonetheless, it’s interesting to ponder.
The panel takes place at the San Diego Comic Con, which runs from 25th to 28th July 2024. Davies and Kurtzman will unite for the SDCC Intergalactic Friendship Panel: Star Trek x Doctor Who, which will take place from 5:30pm in Room 6A on Saturday 27th July. This foreshadows the inaugural Intergalactic Friendship Day on 30th July, which is apparently to celebrate hope, companionship, and… all that stuff.
Anyone going to the panel will also receive a commemorative poster designed by Dusty Abell.
A series of costumes and props from both Doctor Who and Star Trek will be on show at the “Friendship is Universal” gallery in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego at 226 and 230 5th Avenue. The free exhibition runs from 25th to 27th July, from 11:00am to 8:00pm, and 28th July from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
Alex Kurtzman is executive producer and showrunner on all ongoing live-action and animated Star Trek series, including Star Trek: Discovery which he co-created.
Davies will also be joined by Ncuti Gatwa (the Fifteenth Doctor) and Millie Gibson (Ruby Sunday) in Hall H for a special “Into the Whoniverse” panel from 12:30pm to 1:30pm on 26th July, then, on 27th July, the trio will be at the Neil Morgan Auditorium at the San Diego Central Library — for a live episode of the Doctor Who Podcast!
Lots of good stuff coming up if you’re heading to the San Diego Comic Con…
