This is a rather lovely and unusual treat: a brand new adventure for the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), read by a former Cyber-Leader!
The Demons Within is a new audio adventure read by David Banks, who played the Cyber-Leader through many 1980s Doctor Who stories including Earthshock, Attack of the Cybermen, and Silver Nemesis.
Here’s the synopsis:
The year is 1860, and a lonely house stands on a craggy rock in Ayrshire, Scotland. Inside, two men brace themselves against rushing winds, wailing voices and loud, crashing noises. Goats with fire-red eyes bleat relentlessly, and a procession of weird figures appear, apparently from all ages of man.
Among them, strangest of all, is a tall man with spiky brown hair, wearing a blue suit and waving a small silver candle…
When the Doctor and Martha call at the house, they learn about the mysterious portal that lies within, a doorway leading – where?
It’s not long before they join the two men in trying to hold back the monstrous demons within.
The story is also written by Gary Russell, former editor of the Doctor Who Magazine.
Martha travelled with the Doctor throughout Series 3, including in some fan favourite stories like Smith and Jones, Gridlock, and Human Nature/ The Family of Blood, the latter putting a lot on the shoulders of the Doctor’s companion. There were many novels released during her travels in the TARDIS, but it’s been a while since we got any new adventures — so this is a must-have.
