Teasing what’s around the corner for everyone’s favourite show about a man in a blue box, showrunner Russell T Davies said that Doctor Who Series 15 is “coming sooner than you think.”
Speaking on The One Show, he said:
“It’s coming… It’s sensational. There are a lot of scares; there’s a planet in the far future that’s absolutely terrifying; there’s a trip to Miami; it’s very, very, very good, and it’s coming sooner than you think.”
We should note that this could really mean any time within the next six months. What “you think” means is… ambiguous. Nonetheless, it’s a positive sign.
We’re actually expecting the season to air around the spring; as the Radio Times points out, Davies previously said:
“If I sound a bit hyper, it’s because I just this morning delivered a Doctor Who script that will be on air in May 2025.”
Of course, that could mean Series 15 will begin in April, or perhaps even March 2025. Those seem decent enough slots for the programme, given that previous seasons have began around then (apart from runs that play across the autumn, of course).
Either way, we’ve not got long to wait… and rumour has it that this year’s festive special, Joy to the World, will end with a short trailer for Series 15 and announce an airdate. Tune in on Christmas Day to find out!
