Actress, Susan Twist, will return for Doctor Who Series 15, after her performances throughout the previous season as a recurring character.
Teasing her return, the BBC Instagram account simply revealed she’d be back next season with an accompanying photo and the caption:
“There’s always a twist… right?”
That, of course, echoes the conclusion of The Devil’s Chord, which had the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) dancing and singing along to a song with those lyrics. Ironically, there was no twist at the end of that episode.
Susan Twist appeared in various stories in Doctor Who Series 14, including as a hiker in 73 Yards, an unnamed woman in The Church on Ruby Road, a portrait in Rogue, Penny Peppy-Bean in Dot and Bubble, and an AI in Boom, the latter leading to the Doctor’s infamous line, “Do you dream about being an ambulance?” She also appeared in one of the 60th anniversary specials, Wild Blue Yonder. This all culminated in her role as Susan Triad in the season finale, The Legend of Ruby Sunday/ Empire of Death.
She outlived her usefulness to Sutekh the Destroyer, but didn’t die, so it’s really no huge surprise she’s back next series, given that Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) offered her a job at UNIT. She’ll probably be seen working for that organisation, as it’s likely UNIT will be back in some form during the run.
Doctor Who Series 15 will air later this spring, likely beginning in April 2025.
