Doctor Who Finale to Screen in Cinemas (and Stream Simultaneously, Prompting Regeneration Rumours)

The last two episodes of Doctor Who Series 15, comprising of the two-part season finale, will screen in cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

The last episode, The Reality War, won’t be available at Doctor Who Series 15’s regular streaming time of 8am either; instead, it’ll stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK and globally on Disney+, prompting rumours that the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) will regenerate at the story’s conclusion. The simultaneous streaming time perhaps hints that a big revelation will occur, one that the BBC and showrunner, Russell T Davies, don’t want spoiling for the general public on social media in advance.

All this adds to speculation of a regeneration, though at the moment, it is just that; it’d certainly be a shame if Gatwa left the series, considering he’s only been in the show for two seasons, suffered multiple Doctor-lite episodes, and not faced the Daleks yet.

Either way, fans across the UK and Ireland will have the opportunity to watch Wish World and The Reality War in cinemas on 31st May 2025.

They’re are written by Davies and directed by Alex Sanjiv Pillai.

Natasha Spence, Events Director, BBC Studios, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with CinemaLive once again and give Doctor Who fans across the UK and Ireland the opportunity to watch their favourite show together. This finale promises to be an amazing ride for Whovians, and we’re excited to share the Doctor and Belinda’s latest adventures with them on the big screen.”

John Travers, Head of Acquisitions & Distribution for CinemaLive, added:

“Following the success of last year’s midnight cinema event, we’re excited to be working with BBC Studios to ensure that this time round Doctor Who fans of all ages are able to share in the epic experience of watching the two-part season finale on the big screen.”

Tickets go on sale at 10am on 1st May. Check with your local cinemas to see if they’re screening the episodes.

Whatever happens, it’s nice to see Doctor Who back on the big screen!
