Doctor Who composer, Murray Gold, has confirmed that he’s working on four soundtracks, covering the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors’ eras, as well as Series 10, and they should be coming relatively soon!
The Series 10 soundtrack, a score for Peter Capaldi’s last season as the Twelfth Doctor with Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and Matt Lucas as Nardole, was left in limbo when Gold left the programme. But speaking at the Doctor Who Appreciation Society‘s 20 Years On event which celebrated twenty years of 21st Century Doctor Who, Murray confirmed that he’s working on the soundtrack again now.
The main issue with the soundtracks is apparently the volume of material available, i.e. how to slim down the scores and distil them into the essence of each series.
The four soundtracks are: Series 10; the 60th anniversary specials from The Star Beast to The Giggle; and the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) era, comprised of Series 14 and 15 (or Season 1 and 2 as some call them).
The Series 10 soundtrack has become something of a running joke, given that it was the only one back then not to be released and by now, it’s for a series that was broadcast in 2017. As BlogtorWho notes, there’s even a Twitter/X account that charts all the things that have been released or that have happened before the Series 10 soundtrack is released…
As someone who loves Bill Potts’ theme, I’d love to get my hands on the music for the series!
With the show seemingly in hiatus right now, we can see the BBC needing to put out a lot of merchandise to keep interest alive, so these soundtracks are just the ticket.
