Peterborough Museum has been awarded a £168,000 government grant following its record-breaking Doctor Who exhibition.
The Museum’s exhibition, Adventures in Time and Space: An Unofficial Doctor Who Exhibition, features a whole host of Who rarities including Lord Kiv from Trial of a Time Lord: Mindwarp; props from every era of the Cybermen; a replica Fourth Doctor TARDIS console; a Quark from The Dominators; and the Emperor Dalek from The Evil of the Daleks.
The funding, which follows a previous grant for a new lift and Adventures in Time & Space, is from the joint DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund, part of a £4 million national funding round aimed at supporting regional museums to improve accessibility, enhance the care of collections, and make exhibitions more welcoming and engaging. As such, Peterborough Museum will get step-free access, better signage, and improved interpretation facilities, plus better safeguarding for collections.
Cllr Dr Shabina Qayyum, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said:
“I am delighted that the government has backed Peterborough Museum with over £300,000 over the last year to help with a new lift and to improve facilities at the venue. The Dr Who [sic] exhibition is our most successful exhibit to date and we need to build on this success to bring more visitors into the city.”
Peterborough’s Labour MP, Andrew Pakes, said:
“This is yet more good news for Peterborough Museum and our heritage attractions. This investment will support improvements at the museum and ensure better access to the best of our local history, art and creativity.”
