We’re a little less than a week away from the launch of new Doctor Who spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, and the BBC has revealed the titles and synopses for all five episodes.
The series launched with Homo Aqua, seemingly the new name for the Sea Devils, and will conclude just before Christmas with The End of the War. The War Between the Land and the Sea will launch with a double bill on Sunday 7th December 2025, beginning at 8:30pm simultaneously on BBC One and iPlayer.
The show features Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Salt, Russell Tovey as Barclay, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Bingham, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, and Colin McFarlane as General Austin Pierce.
Here’s the trailer:
Looks pretty good!
And here’s what to expect from each episode…
1. Homo Aqua (7th December 2025, 8:30pm)
An ordinary man finds himself caught in the conflict between land and sea as the Thames reveals some terrifying secrets.
2. Plastic Apocalypse (7th December 2025, 9:15pm)
Barclay becomes humanity’s ambassador when the mysterious Salt emerges from the Tank. But his family’s life is torn apart when Salt wreaks revenge upon all mankind.
3. The Deep (14th December 2025, 8:30pm)
Barclay makes a terrifying descent into the world of Homo Aqua. Back on the land, Kate stands alone as Downing Street conspires with the army to change the course of the war.
4. The Witch of the Waterfall (14th December 2025, 9:20pm)
Barclay and Salt go on the run in a war-torn London, as UNIT reels from disaster. But when Tide threatens the land and Gunsberg advances his plans, the Severance plans demand blood.
5. The End of the War (21st December 2025)
Barclay stands alone, UNIT is powerless, and the oceans rise as the war reaches its climax. While traitors conspire, can Barclay find Salt before it’s too late?
The spin-off also stars Samuel Oatley as Tide, Vincent Franklin as Prime Minister Harry Shaw, Barbara Probst as General Dominique Dussolier, and many more!
Curiously enough, there’s been a distinct lack of Doctor Who branding for the show…
Co-written by Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe, The War Between the Land and the Sea is directed by Dylan Holmes Williams. A re-edited version of the Third Doctor classic, The Sea Devils, will also be available on 7th December.
