Back by Popular Demand: Candy Jar Books to Re-Release Three Lethbridge-Stewart Novels

Candy Jar Books has announced the re-release of The New UnusualA Very Private Haunting, and The Man from Yesterday – three Lethbridge-Stewart novels from series five that are back in print with exciting new covers. Originally released nearly a decade ago, they have been brought back by popular demand.

In The New Unusual, Anne Travers finds herself investigating a strange underground movement in 1970s Australia. As the mystery deepens, she and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart uncover an alien force unlike anything they’ve encountered before. The book blends the cultural upheaval of the time with a heart-pounding thriller and mind-bending science fiction that pushes the boundaries of reality itself.

In A Very Private Haunting, Lethbridge-Stewart and Anne are called to the remote Scottish village of Glencross, where the disappearance of a young boy leads them to a haunted manor steeped in dark secrets.

As they unravel the mystery, they discover a chilling connection to the sinister “shadow creatures” that have been plaguing UNIT – and the consequences of this discovery are more terrifying than they could ever have imagined.

Finally, in The Man from Yesterday, the long-buried secret of Lethbridge-Stewart’s missing father comes to light. The Brigadier embarks on a perilous investigation, uncovering strange alien phenomena along the Norfolk coast, and soon discovers that his father may still be alive.

But this revelation leads to an even greater shock: his family’s connection to a hidden alien threat is far deeper and more dangerous than he could have ever imagined.

Shaun Russell, Head of Publishing at Candy Jar Books, says:

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring these novels back to the fans who loved them the first time around. These books were originally released as exclusive editions. With updated covers, these stories look better than ever, and we can’t wait for readers to rediscover these thrilling adventures of the Brigadier and Anne Travers.”

Candy Jar has also announced that the new UNIT book, The Secret of Foxfell Forest by Nick Walters, is available to pre-order from bookshops across the UK right now.

The novel was originally released in October 2025, but the paperback edition is no longer exclusively available via Candy Jar’s website. It is now being distributed through the Books Council of Wales, so you can order from Waterstones, Amazon, and other retailers.

As the third title in the popular UNIT range, the novel features the return of the Valethske and runs concurrently with The Catacombs of Seville, expanding the scope of the series with two simultaneous UNIT missions. Fortunately, you can read it as an introduction to the series, as no prior knowledge of the series is necessary.
