Get your daily fix of news, reviews, and features with the Doctor Who Companion!

The Doctor Who Companion Joins Substack! (Don’t Worry: the DWC Is Here to Stay)

You can now find the Doctor Who Companion on Substack, meaning an extension of the current site which can also result in you getting content delivered straight to your email Inbox too.

But don’t worry: the DWC isn’t going anywhere. Substack really is just that: an extension.

Why now? Because next week, the DWC celebrates its 10th anniversary, so we’re in a celebratory mood!

You can find us here: https://thedwc.substack.com/

So what is Substack? The service essentially combines newsletters, blogs, and podcasts, allowing us to publish stuff that’s available to readers using a special URL (i.e. accessible via our web browsers), using the Substack app, and/or delivered to your Inbox if you decide to subscribe. We’ve not got a podcast at the time of writing.

Note that this isn’t replacing anything. You’re still going to get all the news, reviews, features, free stuff, and more that you expect right here. Also note that content on Substack won’t be posted daily like it is on the DWC.

So what are we using Substack for? It’s a mix of things really. Perhaps most importantly, we’re going to be dipping back into our archive to share some articles from days gone by with you. After all, we’ve got a decade’s worth of pieces to go through, some of which you might’ve forgotten entirely. We’ll update things where necessary. Those articles will remain on the DWC’s main website too.

Some newer articles will also be double-posted here and on Substack, meaning subscribers can get to see some of the things we’re doing here.

Very little will be available exclusively on Substack; occasional bits and pieces will only be there, but these will most frequently be part of the “All of Time and Space” section, so that’s where we throw open the floodgates and let our writers talk about anything they love or want to review. Art, literature, science, travel, other sci-fi and TV, etc. So that’s not always related to Doctor Who. For instance, I’ve reviewed a book called Monetizing Jesus: How Predators Bait Us & How to Outsmart Them — not Who, but some of our readers will nonetheless be interested (well, we hope!). Doctor Who articles will be on here. Substack lets us expand our wings a bit.

We’ll likely throw up some photos and short bits of nonsense over at Substack as we’ve found WordPress isn’t especially conducive to that sort of thing…

As ever, we’re always looking for new voices, so if anyone would like to write for the DWC, please do get in touch using the email address — doctorwhocompanion@outlook.com

The Doctor Who Companion turns 10 years old on 26th March 2026, and we’ve got lots of plans: those began with the launch of our new “Free Stuff!” section (found above) and continue today with not only the announcement of our Substack but also an article later on that looks at our launch, back in March 2016…
