David Tennant Joins Murder-Mystery Drama, Deadwater Fell

There’s been a murder, albeit fictional, and David Tennant is once again on the case! That’s because the Tenth Doctor actor will appear in the upcoming Channel 4 crime drama, Deadwater Fell, which follows a community after a brutal killing.

If this sounds similar to Broadchurch, it’s only fair to point out that many murder-mysteries utilise such a premise and that Chris Chibnall’s effort probably only comes to mind because it was one of Tennant’s high-profile, and acclaimed roles.

Here’s the synopsis for the show:

When a seemingly perfect and happy family is murdered by someone they know and trust, the small Scottish community they call home becomes riven with mistrust and suspicion as those closest to the family begin to question everything they thought they knew about their friends…

Tennant plays Tom Kendrick, described as “the local GP, a trusted, admired and much-liked member of the community. A doting father to three little girls, a loving husband, his marriage to Kate, played by Anna Madeley (Patrick Melrose, Utopia) appears nothing short of perfect.”

Madeley played Clarissa Eden in The Crown, which also starred Matt Smith (the Eleventh Doctor). Sadly, it doesn’t sound like she’s in the series for too long:

“But in one night the illusions of happiness and contentment are shattered, as the community is drawn to Kate and Tom’s family home in the forest by the flicker of flames and the smell of smoke. Amid the confusion of the house fire, Kate and her three children are found dead, and Tom, who is found alive, is rushed to hospital.”

We presume this leads Tennant’s character to investigate who murdered everyone he loves…

Deadwater Fell begins filming in Scotland late this year, and will air on Channel 4.
