A new Doctor Who 60th anniversary trailer hints that Neil Patrick Harris will be playing a returning foe, the Celestial Toymaker, as originally played by Michael Gough.
The brief clip begins with a falling deck of playing cards and a narrator saying, “These are the rules of the game”. We also hear laughter, which some have posited is actually Gough’s Toymaker.
None of this is confirmed, however. Nonetheless, we think it’s a fair shout.
Check out the teaser for yourself.
Reversed, we hear David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor saying something like “He’s got in everyone’s head.”
Various additional clues are in the trailer, notably in binary — one of which translates to “TRACING ROUTE TO: EUROVISION13//05//2023”. Again, we’re inferring this means we’ll see a full trailer before the Eurovision Song Contest, being held in Liverpool, in the UK on behalf of Ukraine, this Saturday (13th May 2023). Another binary clue hints that this episode will be set in 1926 (which more of less adds up, as a poster seen during location filming is dated 1925).
We expect that to be the last teaser before Eurovision, with each featuring footage from the three specials coming in November, to celebrate 60 years of Doctor Who.
