Jinkx Monsoon’s Character in Doctor Who Series 14 Revealed (Sparking Rumours She’s the Master)

The name of the character Jinkx Monsoon will be playing in Doctor Who Series 14 has been revealed.

Monsoon will be playing the part of Maestro in The Devil’s Chord, the second episode of the upcoming run of stories.

Showrunner and writer, Russell T Davies, told Empire magazine:

“As for Jinkx, she actually stepped off the stage after a Broadway run of Chicago to get straight on a plane to be the character of Maestro in Doctor Who, and I think we can say she enjoyed that part somewhat.

“It’s a performance and a half!”

And Fifteenth Doctor actor, Ncuti Gatwa has added:

“She absolutely blew us away. It was so cool to see her transfer her skill set to this show. She fits Doctor Who so well.”

As the Radio Times points out, many are speculating that the Maestro is actually the Master, the Doctor’s long-term enemy and occasional friend, last played on screen by Sacha Dhawan. There are some parallels in the names… but we think it’s pretty unlikely. Maestro is just the perfect name for a music-focused villain, so we reckon the similarity is, at best, there to tease fans, but more likely just because it fits so perfectly.

The Devil’s Chord is the second story of Series 14, following Space Babies, also written by Russell T Davies. It’ll see the Doctor and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) head to Abbey Road Studios in the 1960s in the hopes of meeting The Beatles.
