Doctor Who composer, Murray Gold, has seemingly confirmed that Catherine Tate will host the Doctor Who Proms next week.
Tate, of course, played the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor companion, Donna Noble, while Gold has composed music for Series 1 to 10 then 14 to present.
Gold told the Radio Times:
“I’m really happy it’s her because she’s an icon of the show. She actually dropped me a note after the [60th anniversary] specials aired, saying nice things about what I’d done. Oh God, she’s great!”
And while Tate is expected to host the show throughout, there might still be special guests — including, naturally, a cavalcade of monsters!
The Doctor Who Proms will feature conductor, Alastair John King, and soprano, Aida Garifullina. Here’s the synopsis:
“Doctor Who makes its much-anticipated return to the Proms with a brand-new show celebrating the latest adventures of the Doctor. Showcasing [composer] Murray Gold’s epic music for the series performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Prom features sequences from the series on big screens, spectacular lighting and a host of special guest appearances – and, yes, there will be monsters! A concert like no other in all of space and time …”
Gold further confirms that the ceremony will include “cues from the recent Ncuti Gatwa series that haven’t been released yet”, so expect the unexpected…
There are two performances of these Proms at the Royal Albert Hall on 26th August 2024 at 14:30 an 19:00. They’ll be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, then be available on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later this year.
