Love Doctor Who? Then You’ll Probably Love Livestreams of NASA Space Launches Too

Here’s something unusual, but which we think Doctor Who fans will love: Netflix will stream a wealth of fascinating content focused around space travel, thanks to a new partnership with NASA.

NASA+ Live will give audiences rocket launches, mission coverage, and real-time views from the International Space Station, all in HD. So when you look up at night and think that the universe is on our doorstep, you’ll now be able to get closer than ever before, thanks to your TV, PC, laptop, or smartphone.

No, this isn’t directly related to Doctor Who, but the chances are, if you love the Doctor’s adventures in time and space, you’ll enjoy learning more about mankind’s own journeys into space. After all, that’s what such storytelling is all about: showing you the wonders of what’s around you and encouraging you to explore, in whatever way you can.

Netflix’s Tudum site enthuses:

“Whether you’re a die-hard space nerd or someone who just really, really enjoys seeing Earth glow from 250 miles up, the countdown has officially begun. So go ahead, set a reminder, pop some popcorn, and tilt your screen skyward. The next giant leap for humankind might just start with you pressing play.”

Rebecca Sirmons, General Manager of NASA+, says:

“Our Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience. Together, we’re committed to a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration — inspiring new generations — right from the comfort of their couch or in the palm of their hand from their phone.”

NASA+ live feeds will start appearing in the Netflix interface later this summer, but detailed schedules are still be announced. What’s more, NASA+ is free to view, without ads, on the NASA app and NASA.gov.
