Blue Zoo Animation Studio has announced the director of the upcoming Doctor Who animation destined for CBeebies.
The company’s new Creative Director, Dominic Minns, will be in charge of all episodes of the show, which is aimed at youngsters and is now in production, ready for transmission over the next few years. At the moment, it’s the only official Doctor Who TV series in production!
Dominic Minns said:
“Having worked within the Zoo family for several years, joining Blue Zoo as a Creative Director feels like a huge and exciting next step. I’m especially thrilled to be working on the CBeebies Doctor Who animation. My goal is to fully utilise the full talents of both Blue and Brighton Zoo to capture the epic scale and wonder of the series, while making it delightful, funny, and relatable for preschoolers. It’s an honour to be here.”
Blue Zoo Animation Studio is responsible for many popular kids’ shows, most notably Numberblocks, The Adventures of Paddington, and Tree Fu Tom (the latter featuring the voices of Sophie Aldred, David Tennant, Mark Bonnar, and Sharon D Clarke).
The Doctor Who series will consist of 52 11-minute episodes, with the first 26 to screen in 2027 to 2028, and the next 26 across 2028 and 2029. Though many DWC readers will be too old for the show technically, I’m sure many will still give it a go based purely on the franchise links.
