Emmy Award winner, Archie Panjabi, will play a villain in the next season of Doctor Who, according to Deadline (a source which nearly always on the money).
Panjabi has appeared in a lot of popular TV series both in the UK and America, including Life on Mars, Under the Bridge, Sea of Souls, Snowpiercer, Blindspot, and The Thin Blue Line (as the sister of Constable Maggie Habib, played by The Sarah Jane Adventures and Smile‘s Mina Anwar, in the latter). Her breakout role was in the 2002 film, Bend It Like Beckham.
She’s since been nominated for three Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Kalinda Sharma in The Good Wife, something she actually won in 2010.
It’s unknown who Archie is playing in Doctor Who, or indeed how many episodes she’ll be in. Cue cries of her playing the Rani, of course — she’s more than likely to be playing an antagonist in one episode, however. Though that’s pure supposition at this stage, as the BBC has yet to confirm her casting at all.
Doctor Who Series 15 is the second run of stories for the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday, respectively played by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, and they’ll be joined by new companion, Belinda Chandra, aka Andor‘s Varada Sethu.
Doctor Who returns to screens over the festive period for this year’s Christmas special, Joy to the World.
