Doctor Who Series 15 guest actor, Rose Ayling-Ellis, has revealed how excited she was to be cast in the next season of the show.
The former EastEnders actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner will be in an episode of the upcoming Series 15, the second season with Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor. She enthuses:
“I genuinely was a fan of Doctor Who growing up as a kid. It was a thing that I watched on a Saturday with my mum and my brother on telly, and we’d get excited about it. I’ve been watching it for a long time. So, I was so excited when they offered me this role. I said yes, 100 percent.”
She further explains:
“I had to travel on a train up to Wales and I had my interpreter with me, but she doesn’t know much about Doctor Who. So I sat her down to explain everything, like that the Doctor regenerates. So, genuinely, I am a big fan of Doctor Who and it was just an incredible experience. I really wanted to, and had to, keep it a secret for a long time because we filmed it in February last year.”
Yep, a whole year ago!
Then again, that’s not a great shock seeing as Series 14 and 15 were shot quite close to each other so that Gatwa could do other projects between filming.
I love it when someone cast in the show is really a fan; they bring a real joie de vivre to their roles. And Rose is a wonderful actress, so I’m looking forward to seeing her on screen. It does sound as if she would’ve been overjoyed if those rumours of her being cast as a companion back for Series 14 were true. Ah well — we’ve at least got Millie Gibson and new companion actress, Varada Sethu, bringing energy to the programme.
