Kasterborous, the long-running podcast that uses Doctor Who as a jumping-off point for wide-ranging discussion, is marking a major milestone with Kasterborous 500, a special online podcast event celebrating nearly two decades of broadcasting.
Launched in 2007 with a simple “PodKast the First,” the Kasterborous podcast has since travelled through multiple websites, hosting platforms, and formats. Along the way, keeping an exact count became… complicated. It is entirely possible that episode 500 already happened a few weeks ago. It’s also possible it hasn’t happened yet. But one thing is certain: right now marks roughly 500 episodes and around 19 years of podcasting.
To celebrate, I’ll be joined by my regular host, James McLean, alongside long-time contributor Brian A. Terranova; together, we’ve prepared a series of special edition episodes under the banner “Kasterborous 500”.
These episodes will:
- Look back at how the podcast began
- Revisit early ideas, formats, and experiments
- Reflect on the many side projects and spin-offs along the way
- Celebrate 19 years of memories, mistakes, laughs, and learning
In addition, bonus material will be added to the Kasterborous Archive, including a collection of interviews with Doctor Who actors — many conducted by Brian A. Terranova — some of which have not been widely heard since their original recordings.
While Kasterborous has always looked beyond Doctor Who, the series remains its creative launchpad — a way to talk about culture, media, fandom, and life itself. Bringing these classic interviews back into circulation is a way of honouring both the show and the community that grew around the podcast.
“Kasterborous 500” will take place online, with exact dates, times, and guest announcements to be confirmed. Listeners are encouraged to watch for updates and announcements in the coming days and weeks as the team builds Kasterborous 500 into a genuine podcasting event.
You can listen to Kasterborous via Apple, Spotify, and more.
