A TARDIS model has been moved from a field in Suffolk to its new home — a church in Cambridge!
It’s not an official model, but the TARDIS looks pretty great, and is due to be refurbished next week, ready for people to visit and pose beside. Last year, Reverend Jason de-Vaux came was contacted by a Suffolk farmer looking to renovate his TARDIS (not an ordinary sentence); this developed into a conversation about the TARDIS being rehomed. It materialised at the Zion Baptist Church in East Road, Petersfield, on Friday 30th January 2026.
The model had apparently been sat on a plank in a field since 1983, although looking at the photos of its being transferred, this TARDIS does look more recent than that.
The Revd de-Vaux enthused:
“It is a piece of history as much for science-fiction, but also it’s a piece of British history… I started watching Doctor Who in 1972 and I remember watching it in black and white. I have grown up through it all. It’s iconic. It feels very special to have it and it’s also good for Cambridge. It gives Cambridge something new.”
This TARDIS might’ve been a bit faulty as it didn’t dematerialise: instead, it took around three hours for Kane’s Hiab and Transport of Cambridgeshire to move it — and they did it for free!
The Reverend hopes to hold an event on 12th April to unveil the newly-restored TARDIS.
Now, the thing about this is, it’s not a massive news piece. This isn’t Russell T Davies extolling the virtues of an upcoming episode or a cast member saying “it isn’t what it used to be, y’know”: this is just charming and lovely. It’s a happy story. It shows how deeply-ingrained Doctor Who is in our society. This is what Doctor Who should be.
Imagine being a kid and walking around a corner, only to spot the Doctor’s famous space-time ship! All day, you’d be on the lookout for Slitheen and a Time Lord with dodgy dress sense, two hearts, and a sonic screwdriver. Magic.
We’re sure lots of people have their own TARDIS models, and isn’t that wonderful? You can see the one that’s moved to Cambridge over at Cambridgeshire Live, but we’d love to see any TARDIS or Dalek props you have!
