Candy Jar Books Announces The Benton Files Collection, a Compendium of UNIT Short Stories

Candy Jar Books is launching The Benton Files Collection, a massive compendium that delves deep into the world of John Benton, the iconic sergeant from Doctor Who who served under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

This collection includes all seven volumes of The Benton Files, plus a brand-new, exclusive story by Tim Gambrell, along with illustrations by Terry Cooper. For anyone who’s a fan of UNIT and the Doctor Who universe, this collection is an absolute must-have.

UNIT Range Editor Tim Gambrell says:

“It’s been incredible to see the ongoing demand for these Lethbridge-Stewart and UNIT stories. The collection is the perfect companion to these re-releases, offering fans the chance to experience all these thrilling stories in one massive volume. It’s an essential read for anyone who loves Doctor Who and UNIT.”

The book contains stories by Hayden Gribble, Ian Ball, John Peel, George Ivanoff, Kenton Hall, Matt Barber, Paul Driscoll, Andrew Allen, and, well, me! I wrote A Right Old Run Around for The Benton Files III, released free with the UNIT: Fall-Out hardback, all the way back in 2023. My story takes place during the time Benton owns a used car dealership — actually a front for UNIT — and sees aliens turn up, looking for help in escaping their persecutors. Oh, except they’re just 5mm tall. It was based on an idea from Tim, and I had a lot of fun writing it. I’m also hugely proud of some of the ridiculous puns, notably Mr and Mrs Bach; her first name being Helen…

Corny, I know, but it made me laugh.

There’s a further, final Benton Files book coming out soon, to be released as an accompaniment to the hardback version of UNIT: The Vaughn Supremacy. The Benton Files Collection will also be a fun read alongside Benton and Hawthorne Investigate by Lucy McCaul, which was published last year.

The Benton Files Collection is available to pre-order now from Candy Jar Books.
