Composer, Murray Gold, says that showrunner, Russell T Davies, has written multiple versions of the next episode of Doctor Who.
Speaking on the podcast, Half the Picture, Gold said:
“I know that Russell’s written, I think, multiple versions depending on certain outcomes… So that’s all I really know and I’m not sure I’m even supposed to know that.”
What these “certain outcomes” are remains to be seen, but perhaps it depends on whether he stays on as showrunner or hands the reins over to someone else. Similarly, it could be that who Billie Piper is really playing, and whether she stays on long-term, is also to be decided.
Alternatively, it could be to hide spoilers.
It’s interesting either way, especially as Davies has claimed in the recent past that he knows exactly what happens in the next episode, due to screen at Christmastime later this year.
Gold admits:
“I think we’re at a precarious point for Doctor Who. I am hopeful that it’s all going to be the start of a wonderful new era. So I really hope that that’s what happens.”
Murray fortunately says that he would “never turn down Doctor Who.” Whether that means he’d stick around if Davies left is unknown; however, when Chris Chibnall took over, it sounds like Gold didn’t know he’d been quietly axed before Segun Akinola was announced as composer on the Thirteenth Doctor era.
We’ll have to wait until Christmas to learn about what’s really going to happen, but we’ll presumably have more of an inkling fairly soon, seeing as filming is due to start pretty soon…
