Former EastEnders actress, Rakhee Thakrar has fueled rumours that she’ll be the next person to travel in time and space in the TARDIS alongside Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor.
But let’s be clear: she certainly doesn’t address the speculation directly. More than anything, she evades the question… so yes, some may think she could’ve been trained by the Doctor Who production crew. Equally, she was used to keeping secrets on BBC1’s soap, which she starred in for two years as Shabnam Masood.
When asked about being the next companion by the Leicester Mercury More magazine, she said:
“My way of looking at everything is just be here and see what happens. There’s such a vast range of projects and roles, that I’m open to see what comes.”
Thakrar left EastEnders in January and rumours about possible connections with Doctor Who began soon after.
If we look at the people she’s followed on Twitter – is that an accurate indication of anything? Who knows? – she has followed a number of people related to Doctor Who, including Jamie Mathieson (Mummy on the Orient Express), Class writer Patrick Ness, and Missy herself, Michelle Gomez.
And then there’s Doctor Who Magazine, Gallifrey One, and Who poster designer, Stuart Manning. Maybe she’s just a huge fan? She referenced regeneration when she joined EastEnders…
Okay, so she also follows Sherlock‘s Vinette Robinson (Donovan) and Rachel Talalay, director of the first episode of Series 4 – so maybe that’s the connection.
Doctor Who Series 9 starts filming next month so we expect an announcement fairly soon, pretty please?
