The Doctor Who spin-off, Class, set at Coal Hill Acadamy has finished filming, and three new books have been announced – revealing the show’s logo!
Initially credited as books by Patrick Ness (Class‘ creator and writer), Joyride is in fact written by Guy Adams, and What She Does Next Will Astound You by James Goss, while a third book is yet to be properly unveiled. These novels are due out on 27th October, so expect the TV series to be begin on BBC3 and probably BBC1 before then.
James Goss is obviously a familiar name in fandom, having written numerous books and audios including Dead of Winter, the award-winning Dead Air, and the novelisation of City of Death. The same goes for Guy Adams, who’s further written audios for Torchwood, Professor Bernice Summerfield, and Iris Wildthyme. His most recent work for Big Finish was last month’s Fiesta of the Damned.
So Class is in good hands!
What of the logo? It’s fairly simple, and as some have pointed out on Twitter, owes something to the Alien logo.

The book covers expand on the synopsis, which talks of a crack in time:
Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy, Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen it before.
Hmm. The universe is cracked. Sounds familiar. Maybe it’s the rift (though that’s Cardiff, not London), or perhaps it’s the residual weakness left over from the Doctor’s TARDIS exploding in The Pandorica Opens/ The Big Bang (2010). I’m hoping it’s the latter; it’d serve as a nice reminder of one of the strongest story arcs of Doctor Who.
The cracks on the covers don’t look quite as crooked as the one throughout Series 5, however…
The show finished shooting on Friday, and Pearl Mackie, the Doctor’s new companion, Bill, attended the wrap party!
