Jodie Whittaker to be Given Freedom of the City of London

Jodie Whittaker has been nomitated to accept the Freedom of the City of London, alongside 100 other women, from all walks of life. The award is designed to celebrate the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, first created in 1918.

All the nominees as selected from numerous industries so long as they have a connection to the city. The 100 nominees this year include a restauranteur, florist, ecologist, town planner, beauty salon owner, and a bishop. Whittaker has a connection to the city of London because she studied and trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Friday 8th March 2019 saw London’s top decision makers, The Court of the Common Council set the final seal of approval on who will win the award and there will be a number of ceremonies taking place over the coming months.

The Freedom of the City of London is believed to have begun way back 1237 and it enabled people to carry out their various trades. Today people are offered The Freedom to forever link them to the historical city. And it is also offered to people who live in London because of their outstanding contributions to the area and their public life.

With Series 11 having received a number of awards and prizes, as well as a lot of media and public attention, Jodie Whittaker seems to have won over a nation.
