Big Finish has announced an exclusive collaboration with HMV for a new vinyl edition of the Tenth Doctor story, Death and the Queen.
The LP, starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Doctor and Donna Noble respectively, will be released as a numbered limited edition of 1,250, on clear vinyl – only available in the UK – set to launch in September 2019. Here’s the synopsis:
Donna Noble has never been lucky in love. So when, one day, her prince does come, she is thrilled to have the wedding of all weddings to look forward to. Though the Doctor isn’t holding his breath for an invitation. And her future mother-in-law is certainly not amused. But on the big day itself, Donna finds her castle under siege from the darkest of forces, marching at the head of a skeleton army. When it looks like even the Doctor can’t save the day, what will Queen Donna do to save her people from Death itself?
Death and the Queen was written by James Goss (Dead Air) and nominated for the best Audio Drama in the 22nd annual Audie Awards.
The story was the finale to the first Tenth Doctor Adventures: Volume 1 set, and also stars Alice Krige, Beth Chalmers, and Blake Ritson. In our review, we said:
“Tennant and Tate’s friendship off-screen has always meant that the bond between the Doctor and Donna has been consistently filled with scathing quips and friendly jibes that feel so familiar as if no time has passed since we last saw them on screen together. Indeed, even hearing the theme music gallop through my headphones stirred a sense of nostalgia that made me feel like the pair had never been away.”
The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Volume 1 was released as a limited edition book-sized CD box set and download in May 2016, and also on standard CD in February 2017. It includes Death and the Queen and two further Tenth Doctor adventures.
Death and the Queen on vinyl will be out in HMV stores across the UK on 6th September 2019.
