Two Doctor Who stars, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, have entered into an exclusivity contracts with BBC Studios, meaning they’ll be working with the corporation on new comedies and comedy-dramas until 2022. While unrelated to Doctor Who, we feel their anthology show, Inside No. 9 is of interest to many Who fans anyway.
And of course both have been in Who: Shearsmith in Sleep No More (not to mention a brief cameo as Patrick Troughton in An Adventure in Space and Time) and Pemberton in Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead.
The pair said:
“We are delighted to continue working under the umbrella of BBC Studios. As a large and colourful umbrella it affords us the creative freedom to develop new and exciting ideas to shape the future of international television and keeps our skin from burning on hot days. And now that it’s raining more than ever, know that we still have each other.”
Josh Cole, Head of Comedy BBC Studios Production added:
“Reece and Steve are two of the most extraordinarily talented and distinctive creators working today. Their gift for comic storytelling knows no bounds and we’re hugely excited to be developing new projects with them. We’re incredibly proud of the uniquely brilliant shows they have made with BBC Studios, and are delighted to build upon the long-standing relationship we have with them.”
In other news, a new series of Inside No 9 is due on TV very soon, and here’s the teaser:
And hello there, Jenna Coleman!
The series will consist of 6 episodes and air on BBC2 in early 2020. Any fans here? Looking forward to the next run of tall tales?
