Doctor Who Series 1, 3, 5, and 6 Scripts Now Available on BBC Writers’ Room

You can now read a range of Doctor Who scripts, completely free, a chance for us all to get a glimpse behind the scenes of stories from various seasons, including Series 1, 3, 5, and 6 – all recently added to the BBC Writers’ Room!

2020 has been quite a difficult year for Doctor Who fans across the world, due to the coronavirus pandemic. But we should be grateful for the scripts that have been generously donated to the BBC Writers’ Room library, all in PDF format for us to comprehend the dynamics of screenwriting.

The first recent batch includes Series 5’s Amy’s Choice by Simon Nye, featuring Toby Jones as the enigmatic Dream Lord; and Series 6’s The Rebel Flesh by Matthew Graham, the first half of a two-part story.

Strangely enough, the second half The Almost People isn’t among them, considering that two-parters are always added together to the website. I hope they manage to track down the script ASAP…

Furthermore, the second and most recent batch consists of the only three episodes by Paul Cornell – starting with Father’s Day, the emotional debut of Rose’s dad Pete Tyler, despite being included in the official Series 1 Shooting Scripts book.

And finally, Series 3’s acclaimed two-parter Human Nature/ The Family of Blood, based on the 1995 New Adventures novel featuring the Seventh Doctor and Bernice Summerfield. It’s the best choice for (aspiring) writers and Whovians to compare and contrast between the TV adaptation and the book. With that said, you can also check out the interlinked Shadow trilogy originally exclusive to the #DoctorofMine Lockdown tweetalong.
